La Selva Biological Station (wet lowlands) is a world-class biological research station and a nature reserve; and one of the finest places for bird watching in Costa Rica. Our excellent trail system and our knowledgeable naturalist guides lead birdwatchers through a variety of habitats, from dense primary rainforest to open pasturelands. The most common bird species found at La Selva include: Agami Heron, Sungrebe, Great Curassow, Slaty-breasted Tinamou, King Vulture, Olive-Throated Parakeet, Great Potoo, Rufous Motmot, Black-cheeked Woodpecker, Ocellated Antbird, Bare-necked Umbrella bird, Snowy Cotinga, Yellow-tailed Oriole.

Organizacion de Estudios Tropicales- OTS has three biological stations in Costa Rica:
La Selva Biological Station located in the Caribbean lowland at the northern base of Braulio Carrillo National Park.This station is recognized internationally as the premier facilities for rain forest research.
Palo Verde Biological Station located in the heart of Palo Verde National Park, in the plains of the northwest Pacific. The park is known for its dry deciduous forests, its lakes and wetlands.
Las Cruces Biological Station and Wilson Botanical Garden in the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica, a site is admired for its extensive collection of palms, bromeliads and plants endémicas.Las Cruces is part of the La Amistad Biosphere Reserve.
